Where I’ve been published this month

Table of Contents

September has been a big month for me! There has been a lot going on in all corners of my world, including on the writing front. My writing has been especially fun this month, with some big interviews and getting published on some of my favorite websites. I wanted to share them with you.

Want to Raise Happy Kids? Be a ‘Conscious Parent’
on Make It Better

I’ve seen Dr. Shefali Tsabary on Oprah and she’s the New York Times best selling author of  “The Conscious Parent: Transforming Ourselves, Empowering Our Children” and “Out of Control: Why Disciplining Your Child Doesn’t Work and What Will,” so it was very excited to get to interview her in advance of her appearance in Chicago in October. She said, “Conscious parenting is not about the child at all. It’s about how we are as parents and how we are mirrored in the relationship with our child.”

When Parenting Teens And Tweens, Know Your Mandate on Club Mid

There are some things I love: Good advice that isn’t preachy, college football, Lou Holtz, being a mom, writing.  When I can combine those all into one piece, I’m a very happy camper and I was so happy to see this piece get some love from Club Mid. Some people mocked me for the reminder that it is not our job to make our kids happy. While I know it is obvious to many, I find that reminders of that are sometimes really helpful.

Kids tell all: 7 things parents need to know about middle school on Chicago Parent

For this article I talked to 7 different middle schoolers for all kinds of schools – urban, suburban, public, private, parochial. None of them knew each other, and I was pretty amazed that they all seemed to be on the same page on a variety of topics, including that they see teasing but not bullying and that they really worry about grades. This made me think that while middle school isn’t easy, the kids are alright. Their lockers, however, are a different story.

My Realistic Fall Bucket List on HumorWriters.org

I love this website because it is home to the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop, and I love Erma Bombeck, a love I got from my mother, who loved her first. For people associated with Erma’s name to find me even mildly amusing thrills me to pieces. The piece originally appeared on this blog, and I edited it and hopefully improved it, adding items like “Bust out the sweaters, cardigans and anything else with long sleeves that allow me to hide the fact that I do not now, nor will I ever, have Michelle Obama arms.” I know I should enjoy today’s 80 degrees and sunshine, but I’m ready for sweater weather.

So, that’s what I’ve been up to this month. It’s been fun and exciting, and there’s still a full week left in this awesome month. I hope your September has been fabulous so far, too! What are some of your recent favorites that you’ve read online lately that you think I should check out? Please let me know in the comments!
