Why breakfast matters for kids and how No Kid Hungry is making a difference

Table of Contents

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day is an adage that we’ve all heard, and that science has supported. Here’s why breakfast matters for kids: on average, students who eat school breakfast earn 17.5% higher math scores, attend more days of school, and are 20% more likely to graduate.

Unfortunately, there’s a staggering number of kids who go to school each morning without breakfast. To change that, No Kid Hungry issued the call last spring to make breakfast a part of the school day for one million more kids within just two years.

I’m more than thrilled to report the great news that we’re already one-third of the way there!

No Kid Hungry is making breakfast a reality for literally hundreds of thousands of kids who have not always had the nutrition they need to start their day. Already more than 300,000 future scientists, artists, and innovators have the healthy food they need every day to fuel their dreams.NoKidHungry

“Serving breakfast as part of the school day means that kids can eat without the stigma of their classmates knowing they don’t have enough food at home . . . Kids are getting better grades, attendance is up and trips to the principal for misbehavior have dropped. When kids don’t have to worry about hunger, they can focus on following their dreams,” the good folks at No Kid Hungry note.

Hooray for progress! Makes you want to break out the bacon, eggs and orange juice to celebrate, doesn’t it?

Let’s keep the morning momentum going and make sure even more future scientists, artists, and innovators start the day with a full tummy. Learn how you can make a difference here.
