I’ve written before about my love of the movie Dumbo here, so it’s not a surprise that I’m pretty interested to see how director Tim Burton and Disney adapt the story for the live-action version that flies into theatres everywhere March 29th, 2019. After seeing the trailer (and that sweet baby elephant with the big eyes!), I’m even more hopeful that this will exceed all expectations.
This classic story tugs on my heart strings already, but knowing that the animated film is about a mother separated from her child takes on even greater significance after the news of the past week.
The hauntingly beautiful version of “Baby Mine” that plays throughout this trailer underscores that mamas and their babies belong together. From the trailer, it seems like that is included here. I think tissues will be needed for this one.
Here’s what the good folks at Disney Studios say about the film:
From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, the all-new grand live-action adventure DUMBO expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.
And how sweet is the poster for Dumbo?
