Today was one of those parenting days. I think there are tracks on my back from where the parenting bus ran me over. I could use a little laughter and parental inspiration, but I also find myself missing some good 80’s sitcom rants.
Designing Women’s Julia Sugarbaker offered some fabulous rants that called people and injustice out with great intelligence, passion and wit. Tonight, though, I was in the mood for something that reflected some maternal frustration, more along the lines of The Cosby Show’s Claire Huxtable setting the younger generation straight.
Her no nonsense attitude kept her family in line. And how can you not love how she would draw clear boundaries that people crossed at their own risk that she also delineated at the same time she smiled a charming smile.
This clip from The Cosby Show of Claire schooling Elvin, her eldest daughter Saundra’s boyfriend about the role of women, feminism, macho attitudes, and how marriage works was just what I needed tonight.

Were you a fan of The Cosby Show? What character currently on television do you think comes the closest to being today’s Claire Huxtable?
