Reading makes me happy, and so it’s not a surprise that I love books. I was an English major in college and I was probably the only one happy to be weighed down with books when it was time to start a new semester. Yup, it was the 90’s, and we still read books. (Sounds like I should add “And get off my lawn!”) But it’s true. I am a book lover. I mean book books. I love turning a page, feeling the paper in my hands and just the process of physically reading a book. My love for that is so deep that I was skeptical of ereaders. In fact, I’ve failed at bonding with them (okay, fine, I’ve also failed at just figuring out how to use them) in the past.

Then I got a chance to try out reading on a Kobo Glo HD ereader and friends, I’ve finally joined the 21st century. For the record, tea goes with everything, even the latest technology.

There were a lot of features that made me like the Kobo Glo HD, including that I loved the built-in ComfortLight. It felt like I could personalize the eReader with adjustable fonts and size. I could even play with the justification.

One of my issues with eReaders was feeling tethered. Books are supposed to be an easy escape to a new world, not something with a cord attach that keeps you tied down. The long battery life allows you to read an eBook with a single charge. Farewell to bringing a charger along with me!

The 6″ HD Carta E Ink touchscreen was really easy to use, and I didn’t struggle once to get where I wanted to be. Even better, there was no glare. That meant I could read outside, something I couldn’t do with my prior eReader that had a ton of distracting glare. I can’t wait to camp out on our patio and read the summer away.

I loved that the eReader was lightweight, and that at 6 inches, I could take it with me wherever I went. It fit nicely in pretty much any bag I had, and I’m a small purse girl. That makes it much easier to take it with me everywhere, especially shopping. I don’t want to lug a big book with me, but reading in the check out line is fun – this makes that far more feasible.

If I forgot the Kobo Glo HD, though, I was not up a creek without a book to read thanks to the Kobo App which let me access my books on my phone. It even remembers my place in my books, which is awesome. The free Kobo App is available to download to iOS, Android, Blackberry 10, Windows 8 or Windows 8 Phone or Desktop Computer.

GloHD_3_CANADA_ENGOne thing I especially loved were the stats. I used to say that I was an English major so the only numbers I needed to know was how many pages I had left. Little did I know then what the Kobo Glo HD could tell me. It can give me info about

  • what percentage of the book I’ve read so far,
  • how many pages are left in the chapter, how long it will take many minutes it will take to finish the chapter, and
  • how many hours it will take to finish the book,
  • how many page turns I’m averaging per minute, and more.
