September is one of my very favorite months, for many reasons. I love that football season is in full swing, the cooler temperatures make me happy and it’s my birthday month. One of my very favorite activities that can be done only in September (at least here in the Midwest) is raspberry picking.
I remember picking raspberries with my great-grandmother. I loved it as a child, and I still think it’s great as an adult. It helps that my husband loves raspberries. Someone recently asked him if he could live on only one food, what would it be. He replied, “Raspberries.”
We’ve journeyed north to Wisconsin to visit Thompson’s Strawberry Farm for a few years now. I know that it’s just over the state line, but crossing that line, even if you don’t go very far, makes it feel like a bit more of an adventure. Don’t be fooled by the name. They have strawberries in June but in September, it is all about the raspberries (which we find more fun to harvest than those close to the ground strawberries).
Now that we have 9 pints of raspberries, I need to figure out what to do with them. Here’s a round up of delicious raspberry recipes.

My husband has long maintained that fresh raspberries are good on their own and perfectly enjoyed exactly as they are, with no adulteration. My daughter says that her favorite way to enjoy fresh raspberries is on top of waffles and pancakes. What’s your favorite way to enjoy raspberries?
Disclosure: I didn’t get anything from Thompson’s Strawberry Farm. We’ve had fun times going there, but they have no clue who I am. I enjoy their delicious recipes in anonymity.
