I love the short films that air before full length Disney•Pixar feature films, as you may remember from me declaring my immense love for the short film “Feast.” With the release of a new clip of the Disney•Pixar short film “Sanjay’s Super Team,” which will open in theaters everywhere on November 25th in front of “The Good Dinosaur,” it looks like they’ve again managed to suck you into a story that hits close to home and tugs at the heart strings.
Check out the clip of Sanjay’s Super Team here:
Director and artist Sanjay Patel, who was an animator on “Monster’s Inc.” and “The Incredibles,” used his own experiences as inspiration for the film.
It tells the story of “a young, first-generation Indian-American boy whose love for western pop culture comes into conflict with his father’s traditions. Sanjay is absorbed in the world of cartoons and comics, while his father tries to draw him into the traditions of his Hindu practice. Tedium and reluctance quickly turn into an awe-inspiring adventure as the boy embarks on a journey he never imagined, returning with a new perspective that they can both embrace.”
Entertainment Weekly notes that Sanjay’s Super Team marks the first time the studio has explicitly made religion the subject of a film and also the first time that they have featured members of an Indian-American family as the main characters. I’m thrilled to see them venture into new territory, and so was my daughter. She said, “Oh, good! I wondered why there weren’t more characters who look like Emma (her best friend).”
How excited are you to see Sanjay’s Super Team and The Good Dinosaur?
