Focus on Fall Fashion: Stitch Fix Review October 2015

Table of Contents

It’s Stitch Fix time again! For this fix, I requested that Crystal style me. I forgot to specifically request her last time, got someone else and missed Crystal. She was back this time! I requested that this Stitch Fix focus on fun and comfy items for fall. As you can see in the photos, there is no doubt that it’s autumn here in the Midwest and I was ready to dress for the season.

But first, if you’re new to Stitch Fix, here’s how it works:

It is a personal styling service for women. You fill out a questionnaire that includes questions about your style, size, and budget preferences, what you want and what you don’t want. They use that info to pick out five items (tops, bottoms, dresses, accessories, coats, etc.) and mail them to your door, so you can try them on at home and see how they work with pieces you already have in your closet.

You have three days to decide what to keep or send back in the prepaid mailer they include in your box. There is a $20 styling fee that is applied to your order, and that is charged whether you keep any items or not.  If you keep all five items, you get a 25% discount on everything. You are only charged once you “check out” at Stitch Fix.

After taking advantage of my three days to decide, here are my thoughts and final decisions on the items Stitch Fix sent my way:

THML Pierina Textured Colorblock Peacoat

So, this coat made me think of this hat from Target that I already had, and I thought they paired pretty well together. There’s a lot going on with this coat – color blocking, quilting, double breasted and a whole lot of collar. But it works. I know, I need black boots. They’re on the Christmas list! But I did really like it. I have a thing for coats

Verdict: Kept.

Daniel Rainn Dorado V-Neck Blouse

Daniel Rainn Dorado V-Neck Blouse Stitch FixI really liked the color of this blouse, and the detailing was intricate, but I still couldn’t justify spending more than $60 on what would amount to a shell for me. Fall is pretty chilly here in northern Illinois, and this light fabric wouldn’t cut it, and I worry that a sweater and other layering pieces would cover the detail that makes this top stand out.

Status: Returned.

Le Lis Tilda Rhinestone Detail Sweater

DSCN0469I wanted to love this sweater. I really did, and not just because it was the least expensive item in my fix. The fabric was super soft, but also seemed like it could possibly pill pretty quickly. Despite that, I really did want to like it and had it been in any other color, it would have been a keeper. But this color was just, well, meh. An informal poll on Instagram confirmed that it just doesn’t do a whole lot for me. It was $48.

Verdict: Returned.

Collective Concepts  Sallie Dress

Collective concepts sallie dress stitch fix

Again, love the color of this item, as you can tell from the fact that I had jewelry that matched the color pretty perfectly. But there were a few issues with this piece. The pleats off the shoulder seam were a little odd. Not necessarily bad, but they didn’t wow me. Also, while I typically love the idea of a little snap to keep a wrap top shut and modest, it loses something when you can see said snap, as you can tell from the closeup.

The fabric is nice, but it’s not a casual dress. If I worked in an office, it’d be great. But I don’t. I have a dress in a similar fabric from a prior fix that’s a yummy plum color. That and this teal (which photographing more blue, but it was very teal in person) are probably my two favorite fall colors, but I don’t need a dress in each. As seldom as I get dressed up, one is sufficient and this dress at $78 didn’t convince me otherwise.

Status: Returned.

Olive & Oak Tania Button Down Top

Olive & Oak Tania Button Down Top

I may be getting cheap, but I don’t think it’s too much to say that $68 is a lot for a plaid button down. Also, this was a little snug in the arms. As is a theme from this box, it was similar to a prior Stitch Fix item that I kept and loved, as you can see in the side by side photo. The photo on the left is the shirt from this fix, the one on the right is from a prior fix. (Yes, it looks a bit short because I accidentally put it in the dryer and shrunk it. I’m still sad about that but do still wear it.) I just didn’t love this top enough to pay that much for it, especially when Old Navy has plaids for $19.

Verdict: Returned.

So, I only kept one item this fix, but I think I’ll get a lot of use out of it. Did I make the right call?

I received no compensation for this post. If you sign up for Stitch Fix using my referral link here, I get a couple dollars toward my next fix.
