When I met my husband, he lived in Los Angeles and I lived in Chicago. It made more sense for him to move here to Chicago, but he travels to sunny Southern California twice a year for work, going for a week at a time. I didn’t pay much mind to his travel. That is, until he mentioned he was staying at the Four Seasons Westlake Village.
Me: “Excuse me? You stay at the Four Seasons?”
Him: “Uh . . . yeah. But it’s for work. It’s not what you think Four Seasons, it’s just a work Four Seasons.”
Me: “How many Four Seasons have you stayed in for this basis of comparison?”
Him: “None. But that’s what people say.”
Me: “I think I’ll take my chances with the ‘work Four Seasons’ and see if these ‘people’ are correct.”
And so it was that I found myself at the Four Seasons Westlake Village for a few days.
I have to say that I disagree that it’s just a “work Four Seasons.”
The Spa
Let’s get right to the good stuff. The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, as it is officially known, is amazing. Truly. I had a massage and a facial, and both were lovely. If I had a to pick a favorite, I’d go with the facial.
Tip: There are discounts available on Wednesdays.
Guests of the hotel can access the spa area without a scheduled service, including the adults-only pool, which is quite lovely.
The Grounds
I thought it would be nice, but I was not expecting a pagoda. I don’t know that a lot of “work” hotels have such a jaw dropping feature.
The hotel was right off the highway, but the property feels very secluded and you can’t see it at all and it wasn’t loud.
It’s worth leaving some time to just wander around.
Food & Drink
I have to say that I never saw hanging out at the hotel bar by myself as a luxurious experience, but it really was at the Four Seasons Westlake Village.
I recommend the truffle fries, which paired remarkably well with my sauvignon blanc.
Also, the coffee bar made a good latte and was a fun space to work/people watch. The gelato they had in the afternoons was a great taste treat.
The Arcade
Yes, I am a child of the 80’s and I spent way too much time that week play Ms. PacMan and Galaga in the arcade. It was awesome.
I know, spa and arcade don’t usually go together, but I loved that this hotel had both. What can I say? I’m complex. And apparently Four Seasons Westlake Village was expecting that.
The Rooms
I will say, however, that if any part of the hotel fits the “work hotel” mold, it’s the rooms, though they are lovely. The bathroom was my favorite part, hands down.
My husband is headed back for another work trip (he goes twice a year). Sadly, I’m not able to join him this time, but I’m crossing my fingers that I can make it work on his next trip!
