My 3 favorites quotes from our family firsts at Walt Disney World

Table of Contents

At the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration (Disney SMMC), we kept track of our family firsts at Walt Disney World Resort. It was so fun to see what people shared using the hashtag #familyfirst. One of the reasons we love returning to Walt Disney World is that there is always something new  and it’s impossible to do it all, so each trip brings firsts.

Our family firsts this year led to some of my favorite quotes from my family members during our time at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration.

1. “That. Was. AWESOME!”

My daughter exclaimed that when we finished riding the Rock-N-Rollercoaster for the first time. Not only was it a great ride, but she felt a sense of triumph having conquered her fear of it.

2. “I’m so proud of you.”

The moms at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration had the option of participating in a one mile fun run the morning of Mother’s Day sponsored by GoGoSqueez. The catch: we had to be ready to run at 5:45 a.m.

The other catch: I don’t run. Not even when being chased. I’ll take my chances and hide. Really.

Turns out, when you have good friends and you get fun green capes, you can do anything. Here are the runners ready to go. Please note that the sun wasn’t even thinking of rising yet.

And here I am with my friend Marge from Tiny Bits of Magic, who is a great runner and even better friend who said she’d walk the mile with me. I said I’d run and she ran right along side me, and I went ever so slowly. She could not have been kinder, both about the running and my funny faces in photos. Also, how cute is her run costume?

She also indulged in me pausing to try to take photos because I cannot run and click with my phone. Turns out stopping didn’t help much, as those photos didn’t turn out so well, as you can tell from this one.

But I tried, both at photography and running. And while neither may have been pretty, I had fun. Getting to run into Epcot as the sun was rising was an amazing experience. I even got a medal. My first-ever race medal. Thanks, GoGo Squeez!

The best part of all was hearing, “I’m proud of you” from my husband and daughter. They knew that this was stepping out of my comfort zone, and I wanted to show my daughter that it’s okay to try something new, even if you aren’t very good at it.

3. “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom.  I love you.”

Another family first for us was spending a holiday at Disney World. The Disney Social Media Celebration concluded on Mother’s Day. It was so fun to experience a special occasion at the happiest place on Earth. It started with a beautiful breakfast, complete with lovely and edible flowers in my yogurt.

IMG_8497The staff members throughout the park consistently wished me a happy Mother’s Day, too, and I loved how some of the women beamed when I asked them about their children. I thanked them for working on the holiday, and hoped their families would have a chance to celebrate and honor them as they deserved.

I felt grateful that it was a day off for me, and the best part was hearing the sweet words from my husband and daughter. Getting to spend my special day with them in a very special place, my happy place, was simply wonderful. It was a very happy Mom’s Day indeed.

IMG_8491Disclaimer: Disney invited me and my family to Orlando to attend the wonderful 2015 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. In exchange for a conference fee, we were provided with park tickets, hotel accommodations, meals, and admission to conference events. I was not asked to write about the conference or sponsors in exchange for our experience, nor was I compensated, but I’m excited to share our experience and my thoughts/opinions on it, which are 100% my own.
