I am not a thrill seeker, and I have a fear of heights. Still, I surprised even myself earlier this month on our family trip to Hawaii when we all went ziplining on Oahu’s North Shore at CLIMB Works Keana Farms. You may be even more surprised, as I was, to learn that I loved it.

""

Ziplining at CLIMB Works Keana Farms is a 3-hour adventure that includes Oahu’s longest ziplines ranging from 500 feet to nearly half a mile long. Here are seven reasons that I loved zip lining at CLIMB Works.

The views are unparalleled.

Gazing out across the North Shore of Oahu at stunning views of the Pacific was something I never thought I’d have the opportunity to do. That gorgeous panorama is something I’ll never forget. This views from the towers before each line were enough to distract me from my fear until I got comfortable.

""

Confession time: I had my eyes closed on the first ride. (Okay, fine, the first two.) When I finished a line, our awesome guide Erin gently encouraged me to open my eyes, assuring me that it would be worth it. She was right, and I was so grateful for her nudge. Speaking of Erin….

The guides are patient and helpful.

Erin, Brandon and Alan were confident, capable and calming guides – everything a nervous first-time zipliner wants and needs. They were also a ton of fun!

The zip system is easy and user-friendly (as in, user doesn’t have to think much and can’t screw it up).

""

Before our trip, I was talking with a woman who works at my hair salon and mentioned I would be zip lining. “I hated ziplining in Colorado! It was awful trying to figure out when and how to break. Not fun,” she said. The knot in my stomach grew exponentially. Turns out, I didn’t have to worry. CLIMB Works has a system that doesn’t require you to break. It was really, really easy.

As a first-timer, I realize I don’t have much credibility. I do, however, have a more experienced source. A father-son duo in our group are regular zip liners who were returning to CLIMB Works and they said that this is the best system they’ve ever encountered.

You do more than zipline.

There are fun challenges sprinkled in along the course, from bridges to the fun rappelling activity seen here.

""

The variety kept it really interesting and had you wondering what was next.

There are fun facts!

As frequent readers of this blog may know, I adore fun facts, and each stop had some fun information on plaques that you could read while waiting for everyone else to zip. Topics ranged from details about the Hawaiian language to the history of the islands.

Learning about agriculture on the island.

""

You zip over a working farm and along the way, there are opportunities to not only see but also taste what they grow. I’ve never had tomatoes that sweet before – they were delicious. They’re more tastes than snacks but are great way to immerse all your senses in the wonders of the North Shore.

Ziplining with CLIMB Works is empowering!

""

Making it through my first zip lining experience alone may have felt empowering, but I loved that CLIMB Works incorporates a message that makes you feel empowered, too.

CLIMB is an acronym: Challenge. Learn. Inspire. Master. Believe.

That’ll be something we can revisit with our daughter, and something I can revisit with myself when facing a task that feels daunting.

Disclosure: A portion of our fees (but not all) were covered by CLIMB Works and we were not compensated for this post. All opinions and irrational fears are my own!
