It feels like fall is here already here. I saw pumpkins in more than one front yard, people were sipping Pumpkin Spice Lattes at the coffee shop this morning and college football is in full swing.\u00a0 The\u00a0 calendar is in sync with the leaves that are showing a twinge of color – autumn has arrived.<\/p>\n
Here are some fun facts about fall, this season full of apple picking, crunchy leaves and harvest fun.<\/p>\n
<\/a><\/p>\n * Fall officially began on the Autumnal Equinox, which in 2014 is on September 23 at 10:29 P.M. EDT. <\/span><\/p>\n * The Autumnal Equinox marks the start of astronomical fall, and is what is noted on all of our calendars.\u00a0 Meteorological fall began on September 1. I think cultural fall began the day after Labor Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n * The equinox usually falls on September 22 or 23. The date varies because the Earth takes 365.25 days to make a complete journey around the sun, not an exact calendar year. On very rare occasions, the fall equinox takes place on Sept. 24. That happened in 1931 and won’t happen again until 2303.<\/p>\n * The full moon in October is called the Full Hunter’s Moon, which is what Native Americans called it. “[I]t\u2019s time to begin storing up meat for the long winter ahead. Because the fields were traditionally reaped in late September or early October, hunters could easily see fox and other animals that come out to glean from the fallen grains,” says the Farmers’ Almanac<\/a>.<\/p>\n
