There are literally hundreds of thousands of apps for smartphones. Some of them are fabulous, and others are not. And some are downright dangerous for tweens and teens. I’m at Make It Better with the article “8 Dangerous iPhone Apps You Hope Your Kids Aren’t Using.”<\/p>\n

You may know that Kik and Ask.fm are apps to avoid, but parents also need to know about Erodr, Down, and Omegle, as well as others. Get the scoop here.<\/p>\n

As Denise Lisi DeRosa, Good Digital Parenting program manager at the Family Online Safety Institute<\/a>, said, “\u201cIt is important for parents to be aware of anything that engages their kids, this includes any type of mass media, social media and popular apps.\u201d<\/p>\n

Parents need to be informed. Have your kids’ passwords, explore your kids’ phones, try out the apps, know what’s available out there. Talk to your kids about being good digital citizens and keeping private info private. Let them know that your primary job as a parent is to keep them safe, and that includes monitoring their behavior online and on their phone. The fact that there are dangerous iPhone apps out there requires it.<\/p>\n

It’s not easy, but it’s so very important.<\/p>\n
