With school out and 80+ degree weather, it really does feel like summer’s here and I’m looking forward to lazy days and family fun. Looking at my wardrobe, though, I realized I had more dress clothes than casual options for warm weather, so I asked my Stitch Fix stylist for help with a summer wardrobe refresh.

"Stitch

For this fix, I requested clothes that would work for laid back, casual occasions that would make getting dressed and looking stylish easy. Here’s what she sent.

"Stitch

Waters Knit Maxi Dress by Papermoon

Tip: In the notes to your stylist, it’s possible to request an item. If you ask for an item, be as specific as possible. Don’t use just the item name, as there could be several incarnations of that dress. Be clear about color and print whenever possible.

I had pinned a Papermoon Waters Knit Maxi Dress to my Pinterest board a while ago. I still really like it, so I asked for it again. The Waters Knit Maxi Dress that I pinned was a different color combo and a slightly different print. I like this one, but not quite as much as I like the one I pinned.

"PapermoonStill, it’s comfortable, casual and easy, which is what I asked for. It’s a little long – I’m wearing some pretty high wedges – but it works. Also, my daughter loved this and it looks even better on her, so it feels like as a household we will get good use of it. She’s really hoping that they will start teen Stitch Fix, and I can’t say I blame her.

Verdict: Kept!

Kathina Sheer Cut Out Knit Top by Fate

Lidia Printed Swing Skirt by Renee C

"Stitch

First, the shirt. I really like the idea of the Kathina Sheer Cut Out Knit Top. The cut out detail is cute and I like the idea of a basic piece with a bit more interest and pop. But this just wasn’t the top for me.

"Kathina The high neck didn’t do me any favors, but my biggest issue was with the sleeves. They hit my shoulders at the worst possible place and made me look like a linebacker. (You can see just how bad it is a few photos down.) It was not at all flattering.

Verdict: Returned.

The Lidia Printed Swing Skirt by Renee C was cute. I liked the print. Polyester, however, is definitely not my favorite fabric in the summer. (I learned that the hard way when I wore a cute but polyester Keziah Skirt Dress from this Fix in Turks & Caicos.)

"LidiaIt’s called a swing skirt, and I’m a girl who appreciates a good twirl, so I had my hopes up. This skirt, however, is made of a slightly stiff material and there really is no swing to it. My husband used the line “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.” If it had been inexpensive, I would have been tempted, but I didn’t love it enough to justify spending $64 on it.

Verdict: Returned

Deanne Printed Maxi Skirt by Loveappella

"DeanneI have the “This outfit is doing nothing for me” look on my face because, well, it’s not. I paired this skirt with the Kathina top at the suggestion of my stylist, but it just didn’t work for me. I love a good maxi skirt and agree that they make for comfy and easy dressing, but this one just isn’t me. The maxi skirt print and the colors aren’t my style. I appreciate that Stitch Fix nudges you outside your comfort zone, but this just isn’t something I would wear enough to justify the $58 price tag.

Verdict: Returned.

Edmond Henley Knit Top by Pixley

I think this is a bit of a Stitch Fix classic and I can see why. My stylist said she saw it on my Pinterest board and I didn’t remember it. Turned out that this is another interest of same item, different color and slightly different print (still chevron, but not as defined as this one). I felt a little better when I saw those differences and realized that I’m not completely losing my mind.

Tip: When pinning an item to your Stitch Fix board, be sure to specify exactly what you like about the piece – cut, color, print, style.

It’s very comfy, and it appears to be well-made. It may not do much for my figure, but it’s versatile. I liked that the sleeves are adjustable, which is nice in the summer when air conditioned spaces can be freezing cold.

"Pixley

The Edmond Henley knit top worked well with white pants, which I liked even better than the jeans, but for some reason that photo was blurry so I’m hoping you’ll take my word for it. My goal is to have at least 3 outfits that I can make with a new Stitch Fix piece, and this pairs with the two different pants as well as white shorts.

I worry that it’s somewhat similar to the dress in terms of chevron and and aqua/navy color combo. I’m wishing that the top had come in the different color that I pinned, but I still like this one.

Verdict: Undecided but leaning toward keeping.
