I’m very thankful to be Irish for many reasons, including that the Irish have always had a way with words. Irish blessings showcase that gift while spreading good cheer, smiles, and hope.<\/p>\n

Here are some of my very favorite Irish blessings, that are\u00a0 perfect\u00a0 for St. Patrick’s Day, and their sentiments easily apply to every other day of the year, too.<\/p>\n

My current favorite Irish Blessing<\/strong><\/p>\n

May you live as long as you want, and not want as long as you live.<\/p>\n

Irish Blessings for Children<\/strong><\/p>\n

May the dreams you hold dearest be those which come true
\nAnd the kindness you spread keep returning to you.<\/p>\n

and<\/em><\/p>\n

May your joys be as deep as the oceans
\nYour troubles as light as its foam
\nAnd may you find sweet peace of mind
\nWherever you may roam<\/p>\n

and<\/em><\/p>\n

May you be poor in misfortune,
\nRich in blessings,
\nSlow to make enemies,
\nAnd quick to make friends.
\nBut rich or poor, quick or slow,
\nMay you know nothing but happiness
\nFrom this day forward.<\/p>\n

May You Always Have…<\/strong><\/p>\n

May you always have…
\nWalls for the winds
\nA roof for the rain
\nTea beside the fire
\nLaughter to cheer you
\nThose you love near you
\nAnd all your heart might desire.<\/p>\n

Old Irish Blessing<\/strong><\/p>\n

May love and laughter light your days,
\nand warm your heart and home.
\nMay good and faithful friends be your,
\nwherever you may roam.
\nMay Peace and plenty bless your world
\nwith joy that long endures.
\nMay all life’s passing seasons
\nbring the best to you and yours.<\/p>\n

This one always makes me laugh<\/strong><\/p>\n

May those who love us love us.
\nAnd those that don’t love us,
\nMay God turn their hearts.
\nAnd if He doesn’t turn their hearts,
\nMay he turn their ankles,
\nSo we’ll know them by their limping.<\/p>\n

May there always be work …<\/strong><\/p>\n

May there always be work for your hands to do
\nMay your purse always hold a coin or two;
\nMay the sun always shine on your windowpane;
\nMay a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;
\nMay the hand of a friend always be near you;
\nMay God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.<\/div>\n

May the road rise to meet you…\u00a0<\/strong> (Perhaps the best known Irish Blessing )<\/div>\n

\nMay the sun shine warm upon your face,<\/div>\n

The rains fall soft upon your field
\nAnd until we meet again
\nMay God hold you in the palm of His hand.<\/div>\n

\nAnother classic Irish Blessing<\/strong><\/div>\n

May neighbors respect you,
\nTrouble neglect you,
\nThe angels protect you,
\nAnd Heaven accept you.<\/div>\n

Irish Blessing of Farewell<\/strong><\/div>\n

Wherever you go and whatever you do, may the luck of the Irish be there with you!<\/p>\n
