ASKfm is a social networking site that’s popular with teens and they’re helping teen parents decode what their kids are actually saying by sharing a list of the 20 terms kids are using. Kids are using these abbreviations, terms, and emojis not just on ASKfm but on other social sites and when they text.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bad –\u00a0 Just like the olden days of parents\u2019 yore, bad still means good but it has shifted slightly and means something even more positive like hot<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ship – Short for relationship<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 :3\u00a0 – A symbol meant to represent the cat face made by anime characters when they say something clever, sarcastic, or comment on something cute<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 IDEK – Acronym for \u201cI don\u2019t even know\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 IKR – Acronym meaning \u201cI know, right?\u201d<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 OOTD – Acronym for \u201coutfit of the day;\u201d commonly used to prompt someone to post a picture of their current outfit or to share your current outfit with friends\/followers<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 SMH – Acronym for \u201cshaking my head;\u201d in reference to something distasteful<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dime – The highest rating on a scale of 1-10; used to share approval or express how good something is<\/p>\n

10.\u00a0 THOT – Acronym meaning \u201cthat ho over there;\u201d used to describe females with a promiscuous reputation<\/p>\n

11.\u00a0 Netflix and chill – Code for hooking up or a \u201cbooty call\u201d<\/p>\n

12.\u00a0 Savage – Used to describe something that is hardcore or extreme, in a good way<\/p>\n

13.\u00a0 AF – Acronym \u201cas f**k\u201d used to express the severity of something\u00a0 (e.g. hot AF)<\/p>\n

14.\u00a0 TBR\u00a0 – Acronym for \u201cto be rude;\u201d usually said before the person shares their true \u2013 and harsh \u2013 feelings<\/p>\n

15.\u00a0 Peep – Can refer either to friends (your people), or to look at\/listen to (e.g. peep this)<\/p>\n

16.\u00a0 Slept – Can refer to hitting someone hard enough to knock them out, missing out on something awesome, or to be extremely high<\/p>\n

17.\u00a0 GOAT – Acronym for \u201cgreatest of all time\u201d<\/p>\n

18.\u00a0 No chill – Used to describe someone who is being irrational<\/p>\n

19.\u00a0 Likers get rate – A phrase that implies the original poster will rank anyone that likes\/comments\/answers a post, typically around how cool they are perceived to be or how they look; also used to incent followers to like posts to get something (usually indicated in the post) in return<\/p>\n

20.\u00a0 Frog emoji + coffee cup emoji-\u00a0 Based off a popular meme of Kermit the Frog drinking a cup of tea, teens use this emoji combo to sarcastically imply \u201cbut that\u2019s none of my business\u201d or \u201cI\u2019m just saying\u201d<\/p>\n
