<\/a><\/p>\n1. Yard Stars<\/strong><\/p>\n Last year “painting” stars in our front yard with flour was surprisingly fun and easy, and they lasted longer than we anticipated. All you need is a scissors, cardboard, a spray bottle with water, a sift and flour. Make a Fourth of July playlist<\/strong><\/p>\n I love some of the songs Lipstick, Lollipops & Life<\/a> included on her playlist, especially “R.O.C.K. in the USA” by John Mellencamp and Don McLean’s “American Pie.”<\/p>\n I would add Katy Perry’s “Firework” and maybe also \u201cFreedom\u201d by George Michael In fact, if the mood is right, I may kick it old school and add in Neil Diamond’s “America,” also known as “Coming to America.” (Be kind, or I’ll bore you will tales of that song as a marching band song in high school.)<\/p>\n 3. Festive Thirst Quenchers<\/strong><\/p>\n For festive summer drinks, Let’s Eat Grandpa has recipes for red, white and blue thirst quenchers. Blueberry Limeade and Pi\u00f1a Colada with Strawberry\u00a0Stripes are sure to be the hit of your party and they can be made with or without alcohol so you can serve to all your guests.<\/p>\n And coconut star ice cubes? How cute and creative are those? They are a definite way to kick your drink up a patriotic notch and they will certainly impress BBQ guests!<\/p>\n 4. Crack a Book One of my favorite books about the Founding Fathers is “John, Paul, George and <\/a>Ben<\/a>” by Lane Smith. It’s a kid’s book, but really is fabulous at any age.<\/p>\n Social Butterfly Mom<\/a> compiled a list of 9 picture books perfect for Independence Day reading with little ones.<\/p>\n Another book that is perfect for the Fourth of July is “A Patriot’s Handbook: <\/a>Songs, Poems, Stories, and Speeches Celebrating the Land We Love<\/a>” selected and introduced by Caroline Kennedy. I really love this book, and it’s a good one to have on hand any time of the year. 5. Dress the Part and Have a Fashionable Fourth Just Jilly<\/a> has some great suggestions for dressing in a way that is both patriotic and stylish here<\/a> and here<\/a>.<\/p>\n I love that she offers three different options depending on where you’re headed.\u00a0 Think I’ll be following the casual option for our trip to the baseball game.<\/p>\n Also, her “don’t” cracked me up.<\/p>\n Thanks to all those creative ladies for their help celebrating the holiday!
