Today Starbucks unveiled its newest beverage offering: the Tiramisu Latte<\/a>.\u00a0 I like tiramisu (love may be the more appropriate word) and I like lattes, so I had to give this a shot. Starbucks describes the drink as “espresso with hints of creamy mascarpone, finished with whipped cream and a dusting of rich chocolate powder.”\u00a0 So how was it?<\/p>\n

My review of review of Starbucks Tiramisu Latte is that it isn’t bad, but it is very<\/em> sweet. And I say this as someone with a pretty major sweet tooth. If you’re not looking for a sugar rush, this isn’t your drink.\u00a0 Mind you, I didn’t think my beverage was bad, but it may have been any sweet and hot beverage would have been definitely a welcome treat on this very cold day.<\/p>\n

The Tiramisu Latte did not taste all that much like tiramisu. There are lots of other sweet and tasty beverages at Starbucks, and this one doesn’t really stand out other than the fact that it’s really, really sweet.<\/p>\n

My 12-year-old wanted to taste it so I let her have a sip. She really liked it, and wanted more. She described it as “sweet and not that strong.” I think her assessment is very accurate. I like sweet beverages so it was fine, but my daughter may be on to something – it may be better suited to the tween and teen crowd than the adult audience.<\/p>\n

Admittedly, the Starbucks website<\/a> proudly declares “Your latte. Our dessert twist.” It also calls the drink a “the perfectly sweet afternoon treat.” They’re owning the sweetness, and that does seem fair to do with a drink that’s modeled after a dessert. But I’d go so far as to say that this latte is sweeter than an actual piece of tiramisu. In fact, I think in many versions of the real dessert the espresso flavor packs a bigger punch than it did in the beverage.<\/p>\n

<\/a>The whipped cream with the dusting of cocoa powder was really good, and seemed to be the part of the drink that was most like tiramisu. This makes sense, because tiramisu isn’t liquid.<\/p>\n

Prior to ordering, I asked the barista if she liked the tiramisu latte and she said that she did and said that, for her, it’s taste was similar to the caramel flan latte<\/a>. I think that the caramel in that beverage is a bit more distinctive than anything that’s in the tiramisu latte.<\/p>\n

This drink is only around for a limited time and, unlike the PSL (pumpkin spice latte), I won’t feel any pangs of sadness when it goes away. While I’m not sorry I had it, but I don’t think it will become a go to drink for me.<\/p>\n
