Lucasfilm’s Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, so it falls after III and before IV. Rogue One is considered to be a Star Wars spin off. It ​tells the story of unlikely heroes who have united to steal plans to carry out a desperate mission: to steal the dreaded Death Star following the foundation of the Galactic Empire.

Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, whom you may remember for The Theory of Everything, as Jyn Erso. It seems from the trailer that she’s not one to play by the rules, and I’m hopeful that she’ll be a great girl power model.

The cast also includes Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, and Forest Whitaker. Genevieve O’Reilly is reprising the role of Mon Mothma from ​Revenge of the Sith.​ Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards.

And the (completely unconfirmed) rumor is that Darth Vadar appears. It’s also worth noting that this will be the first Star Wars film without John Williams’ music as soundtrack. Instead, French composer Alexandre Desplat will be scoring this movie.

So, are you excited to see it? I’m thinking it will be a holiday treat from Disney and Lucasfilm to Star Wars fans everywhere.
