There is much to look forward to in 2017. Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is at the top of the list for both me and my daughter. It’s a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience.
I’m eager to see this new interpretation of my favorite animated Disney film. It will be in theaters everywhere on March 17, 2017, and while we wait, here are the top ten reasons I’m excited for “Beauty and the Beast.”
Emma Watson sings!
Emma Watson never disappoints, and hearing her sing “Belle” in this TV spot has me very excited to hear more of her singing in the film:
The sumptuous visuals
The poster alone is gorgeous, so image what a visual delight the movie will be. It looks stunning.
The iconic song
Ariana Grande and John Legend will perform the Oscar and Grammy-winning duet “Beauty and the Beast” as the title track for Disney’s upcoming soundtrack.
Ewan McGregor as Lumière
I’ve had a crush on him forever, and really I should say them. I’ve loved both Lumière, the candelabra, and Ewan McGregor for decades now. That they will be in one and the same has me over the moon. I’ve wanted McGregor to do another musical ever since Moulin Rouge and I cannot wait to see what he does with “Be Our Guest.”
New songs!
The film will have the songs we know by heart as well as several new songs to keep it new and different. I love that they have stayed true to the iconic movie I love so dearly while also not being afraid to add in new items.
Emma Thompson is Mrs. Potts
Need I say more? I think not. Saying I adore the two-time Academy Award® winner is a pretty massive understatement.
The costumes
Every costume I’ve seen in the trailers and the photos are simply gorgeous.
Alan Menken worked on the score.
Eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards® (Best Original Score and Best Song) for the 1991 animated film, did the score of this new film with Todd Lieberman. It seems everything he touches is amazing, and I’m sure this is no exception.
Books!
I’ve always loved Belle in part because we share a love of books. This image of her in the book shop made my literary heart so very happy.
Getting to see Josh Gad
Getting to actually see Josh Gad (and not just hear his voice) on the big screen as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp will be a treat. I’m often saying, “Gaston, you’ve got to pull yourself together!” in my best Lefour voice. I am excited to see what he does with that and the rest of the humorous role.
This just scratches the surface. There are so many others reasons I’m excited, including seeing Kevin Kline and Dan Stevens and so many more amazing cast members. Why are you excited to see “Beauty and the Beast”? Please let me know in the comments!
