Thank you so much for your kind words – I’m so glad this piece resonated with you. My daughter and friends were talking colleges in middle school, too, and while at the time I wasn’t ready, it was a good opportunity to start laying a foundation about what really matters. As a parent of a somewhat precocious and intense middle-schooler, I find myself often telling her that the name and ranking of the school isn’t what matters. I ask her to spend her time exploring different activities and interests, so that she can discover over time what matters to her. And then hopefully she’ll have a better sense for what kind of school is right for her when the time comes. The news was so disheartening; but sadly not entirely surprising. I like that you’ve provided a nice way of using it to send a positive message to your daughter.
